Private video removed from public list

Short post for this.

As the title says, any video marked as private will no longer show up within the main public lists.

They will, however, continue to show up in subscriptions list (friends) and also on the creator's user page.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

To be honest, I've never really seen the point of private videos... if someone only wants comments from a selected group then they should put it on something like Dropbox and email the link to that group.

And if private videos aren't visible to Joe Public, regardless of their qualifications, then how can they make any attempt to be included in the select group who may be able to make constructive comments? There are one or two users here who only seem to upload privately- they're using it as a private (and free) hosting site.

I'm not dogmatic about it, I'm quite prepared to be convinced that Im wrong!

Thanks for the update! This is a great change for the site. Since there is now a way to filter out (private) videos from the views, would it be possible to extend that functionality to support custom user filters for other types of videos? For example, filter out videos with certain keywords (futa, WIP, Test, etc) or filter out videos from certain users?

GJ!

Thank you

Awesome. Now those people who have been only posting private videos en masse will be forever filtered from my view.
But who knows? I personally think these egomaniacs will just unprivatize their new videos because their secret club is now 'actually' kind of secret. And everyone in the MMD community knows that secret clubs are only worth it to the creator if people know that they exist.

2017-01-19 08:41

I'd say as a small caveat there should be the option to not filter them when searching because when I search a keyword I want to know that I'm seeing everything the site has related to that keyword.

Edit: Oh, hang on, it looks like that might already be the case.

We'll wait and see. Hopefully this is the end of those shameful private grabbing. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Thank you - good update!

+1

+1 to filtering videos from certain users as well. Those Patreon ad videos are getting annoying.

2017-01-21 11:31

Additional filtering options are planned, but they will some with a major revamp.

2017-01-21 15:32

Well, that's good to hear.

2017-01-21 23:26

Finally! Great update to stop a very annoying part of this site. Hopefully these private video users will come back to their senses as well!

2017-01-22 06:33

1+ a few of members upload his videos as privated, dont share his videos, and if anyone want to see it, they report us, like member ""Key2005"" http://ecchi.iwara.tv/users/key2005 : if you dont want to share yours videos, dont upload here, If you try to encourage people to visit your page maybe you should provide the url. I do not understand your eagerness to upload videos and put them as private...

"Please take care of the one you do friend registration of …" really?

2017-01-23 21:44

Make Iwara great again. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

most of reasoning private video being made is because it's targeted for close circle / certain community.
private videos are one of feature allowed in this site.
some albeit not majority of content creators interested to put their works here because of this features.

these listed above is all i can think of why private videos are here. nobody breaking site TOS.

[i'm on the neutral side, lawful evil at most]

Yes, but that shouldn't be done on a site which is intended for free public use.

There are other sites which are designed to provide that service and more, eg allowing collaborative working on a project.

#22 ; i agree , but it's one of feature provided here where most of similar works [mmd] arounds. i can't say anything wrong about something that is not wrong in the first place :(

Depends what you mean by "wrong"...

a) Is it against the letter of the site rules? No.

b) Is it against the spirit of the site? Yes (in my opinion).

But the decision is up to the admins. If someone really doesn't like it they don't have to use the site. I'm not entirely neutral, I don't like private videos... but not enough to stop using the site!

edit- my preference would be a quota. No more than (say) 10% of uploads are allowed to be private. Shouldn't even be too difficult to make automatic via a script.

2017-01-24 01:55

#24 : agreed with both. i'm not support private video either, since technically most of them will provided less ads revenue over bandwidth - storage space ratio.
i just take private videos as "they are not meant for me to watch" and just move on :)

2017-01-25 00:23

It maybe as simple at "they are not meant for me to watch" for us but to many it still abuses the curiosity in human nature that a lot more people who can't seem to control it. Hence the reason for those absurd amount of comments just boot-licking and begging on their knees to befriended. Not to mention the boost in follows they get. This and the absurd uprising of private videos in the home/video page gets very annoying, they want to get in on that "infamous MMD fame" (I can't say that with a straight face because of how absurd it is). In a way if private videos are being abused this much, its better that it never shows up.
I recall a certain well know MMD user who starts with the letter "K" who just loves to private his videos in and out as he pleases. Right after that everyone follows suit on this little privacy trick.

2017-01-25 11:05

put their video in private cuz they want fame? i think it's more that some who does it gets more hate for what they make.

2017-01-28 02:25

Comment section, follows and more likely a massive amount of friend request would think otherwise.
If there was hate it is way to silent on it.

May be I say very rude because I very badly write on english, therefore I will write directly and strong as i can:
Every update like this try going this site to trash and wasting storage and performance:
- allow posting private videos (people upload videos but only few can watch this, so this videos like a trash for most people. private videos only waste iwara resources and useless for most people)
- every time preloading video with highest bitrate on page with video before clicking that I whant to play
- add forced re-encoding (dissuaded from folly)
- replace name of downloaded video file by unclear hash
- hide private videos from others (now everyone can use iwara as private storage like google/1drive... and overload public server with uploading video for their own use)
This site working for everyone or only for little group of people for sharing video only between themselves? Why to need such a iwara if this site not for public use?
And don't say me that at now I only content consumer of this site and this not of my business. Every day site lagging due to a large amount of videos.
I think next crazy step will be adding a payment system to view video

I apologize if I wrote a very rude. As I say english is hard to me to write delicately, I don't know properly words

How about a payment system to upload private videos?

2017-01-29 21:52

>How about a payment system to upload private videos?
Better use many other faster services for this then iwara. Upload video/archive to google drive (pay for more storage) and give link/password only people who you want.
I think in this case iwara also will be no more needed and will die

>- allow posting private videos

This has always been a thing ever since this website was started back in 2014. I'm not here to make it a point to say people can or can't share privately. It's the author's choice and always will be. They only ever showed in public lists when we switched to this Drupal CMS, because that was how it worked by default.

>- every time preloading video with highest bitrate on page with video before clicking that I whant to play

It is supposed to remember the previous resolution choice and pick that one again, if it exists. If not, then it picks the highest available.

>- add forced re-encoding

It currently only encodes if the video is determined to need one. This would only be because it doesn't meet bitrate and/or codec requirements. We will publish exact details on this when things are finalized. This system is still considered a WIP.

>- replace name of downloaded video file by unclear hash

Because we now have a conversion server AND a main website server. Video files go straight to the conversion server which Drupal does not support by default. To make it work better and to correct some bugs, file renames were absolutely necessary.

>- hide private videos from others

I've NEVER liked how Drupal displayed these on main listings. It was ugly. Our first attempt to hide them failed because it caused too much stress on the server. This method works fine.
Did you know? We have observed a reduction of roughly 67% fewer private video in the first week after the change.

>Every day site lagging due to a large amount of videos.

This is just because we need to adjust our content server situation. We currently have 6 that are pretty much out of commission until the host fixes them. And because of this, we can't even be sure if buying new ones would help because those might be defective too. And so far, there is no other provider that we have found offering a service we can actually afford and use without problems.
And no, I will never lock people's uploads behind payments.
