Option to sort your followed and followers

I don't know if this has been mentioned as of yet, or if there is already an option for this, but we really need a way to sort the accounts we follow and the accounts that follow us.

I would love to be able to sort all the people I follow and the people that follow me from oldest to newest, newest to oldest, by name or by join date. Would make it so mush easier to find people on my follow list without having to go back and forth thru them to find someone.

They did actually used to be organized (from newest to oldest, IIRC), but they removed it because it was too taxing on the servers or something along those lines.

Yea. They used to be when this was still Trollvids. But it changed when the site got overhauled to Iwara.

No, that's not when it changed. I only started using this site, like, a week or two before it became Iwara, and I never checked people's profiles until I actually made an account several months later, and I remember when it was like that. And again, it's not just an old Trollvids feature they neglected to bring back because it got lost in the shuffle during the overhaul, it's something they actively removed because it was putting too much stress on the site.

Is that in the update notes somewhere? If so, can you link me to it?

Seeing accounts I've been following for 5 years next to accounts I only just started following last week is really odd.
Maybe just making so the accounts you follow are sorted from oldest to newest or vise versa would be less taxing on the servers. It wouldn't be that different to how your subscriptions are sorted already.

It was not in the patch notes; I don't even know if this site has those. I don't remember where for sure I heard this, but I'm 99% certain it was a post on the forums shortly after it happened, and I know it was definitely admin or Woodscrew or some other site official who explained it (it's only 99% because it might have been, like, a comment on a Journal or something).
And the reason it was so taxing on the servers is because of the little "preview" of your follower lists on your main profile- sorting users in any sense whatsoever beyond randomly meant that the server had to fetch information on ALL of your followers/followed users, rather than just eight of them (since it had to fetch the information related to what it was sorting by). People suggested making it so that they were only sorted on the actual followers/following pages, and still have the random eight users on the main profile; IIRC, they agreed that would probably work, but it was a low priority since it didn't affect the basic functionality of the site and they already had their hands full with just making sure the site stayed up. Which is understandable; Iwara has to deal with a LOT of traffic and data for as small of an organization as it is. They probably spend most of their time maintaining the servers, which can not be easy with how rapidly this site has expanded over the years.
Also, in case this post and my previous one seem too authoritative, I'm not a reliable source for the specifics on why it changed. I'm fairly certain I'm remembering this correctly, and I'm absolutely certain about, like, the fact that this change happened several months after the Trollvids to Iwara update, but I might have misunderstood something at the time.

This is correct. It was removed a long time ago because the server we had back then could not handle the load Drupal was causing by having this feature. Maybe we could bring it back with the current dual server setup, but it's not something we want to spend time on to debug right now.
