Help with compression and file size management with handbrake?

Hi, I try to reduce the size of files using handbrake. Sometimes I use codec 264 and sometimes 265, but it's weird because sometimes the file size grows. The very weird thing is I can compress normal porn videos to be about 10 mb/minute at 720p, with acceptable visual fidelity loss, and probably 15-20 mb/min would be almost no loss whatsoever. But for MMD, it's fricking 50-100 mb/min for 720p?! One time I plugged a 3.5 minute 150 mb mmd into handbrake at H264 at cqrf 24 and got returned 250 mb lol.

Is there a fundamental difference between animated and normal video for compression algorithms, or is it just that animated quality appears to deteriorate quicker due to the fact that it's expected to be very sharp?

I wonder if it's simply because the video I try to convert has lower quality and the program tries to upscale it, though the quality doesn't improve at all?

It also confuses me why some peoples' videos can be so low file size and have great quality and other videos have massive file size and the same quality

When you have videos with a lot of camera movement, the final video will occupy more space than the same video without camera movement, this is due to the way it compresses MP4.

Regarding the loss of quality, what you should not do is try to change the size of the video with the Handbrake.
something like that...
If you have an 8k render you just have to convert it to mp4 with the same resolution, do not try to reduce the resolution with Handbrake or any other converter since they are not very good at doing that, it is as if you open an image.jpg in 8k with it Paint and reduce it to 720p you lose a lot of quality in the process.
If what you want is to lower the resolution, I recommend that you make a new render with the resolution you want and then convert it to mp4.

Finally, to obtain videos with a lot of image quality and with few MB, what you have to do is use some "professional" video editing program since the converters do not have the ability to do that unless you know a lot about Codecs and others to set it up right

Thanks, that is very interesting information! It makes sense why compressing is not as efficient with Handbrake, now that you explain it!

Here is my settings: imgur.com/a/nGgvBap
It does ~40MB/minute @1080p
But yeah - it depends on camera movement and on how detailed is your background.
Final file size depends on how many moving parts is in the video. So if you have grass field in background fully in focus your file size will skyrocket. But if you blur your background leaving in focus only your model video file size will reduce dramatically.
